Été 1937 : Emanuel, un jeune écrivain atteint de tuberculeuse osseuse, est admis dans un sanatorium. Prisonnier d’un plâtre et de son lit, il tente de profiter de cette vie diminuée, tandis que le monde autour s’enfonce dans les ténèbres.
